Fortnite Downtime Confirmed For May 3 – Here’s Why Servers Are Down

Fortnite downtime has been confirmed for May 3, and Epic Games has provided the reasons behind the new server maintenance outage.

The good news is that it will benefit fans who are ready to play the next stage of Chapter 3 Season 2, with popular content scheduled to return for use in the coming weeks.

All the biggest news will be confirmed in the official patch notes, which are expected to be shared later on Tuesday. Here’s what we know about what’s happening later this week as part of the official Fortnite server downtime schedule.

Fortnite Server Downtime For May 3

Epic Games will be performing maintenance on Tuesday, May 3, 2022, with Fortnite server downtime scheduled to start at 9am BST. As part of the normal schedule, players will begin to be booted from live matches 30 minutes before, so you will need to finish any business at around 8am BST to make sure you don’t face any disruption. This will be unified maintenance, meaning it will be happening at the same time across PlayStation, Xbox, Switch, PC and Mobile platforms.

No set time has been shared for when it will end, but in the past, Epic Games has required several hours to complete everything required to bring servers back online. However, it should be noted that the support team has stopped sharing predicted maintenance completion times during Chapter 3 Season 2. The best way to know when downtime has ended is by checking the official social media platforms, as Epic Games provides the latest updates via Twitter and Reddit.

A message from Epic Games adds: “Time to reach new heights! The v20.30 update is scheduled for release on May 3rd. Downtime will begin at 04:00 AM ET, with matchmaking being disabled 30 minutes beforehand.”

No big teasers have been shared directly by Epic Games, with most of the big news coming from leakers. Everything should be taken with a pinch of salt but it appears that Lightsabers and other Star Wars related content will be arriving back in the game on May 3. And while the Fortnite team hasn’t shared any big teasers, they have revealed why it is happening. Fortnite servers are going offline to make way for game update 20.30, which will be available to download after everything has been completed.
