Upcoming fantasy RPG Avowed is one of our most anticipated Xbox exclusives, although we haven’t heard much about it since its 2020 reveal. Late last year some details did trickle out of a report; one of them being that the game will use an advanced version of The Outer Worlds game engine. Now though, that no longer seems to be the case.
As spotted by Klobrille on Twitter, Avowed appears to have moved onto Unreal Engine 5. A LinkedIn job description from an Obsidian developer’s page provides this little tidbit on Avowed development:
“Lead VFX artist on Avowed. Working with Niagara fx in unreal 5.”
This discovery follows similar LinkedIn findings from earlier this year, where other members of the Obsidian team also mentioned Unreal Engine development.
So, yeah, this looks like yet another Xbox next-gen game that’s using Epic’s new technology. It’s safe to say The Coalition will be using the engine too, along with InXile, Ninja Theory and potentially, Undead Labs.
As for when we’ll know for sure? That’s to be determined. Of course, there’s every chance Avowed could show up Xbox’s Games Showcase next month, where we’re expecting to see a lot of what Xbox Game Studios is up to.
How high up is Avowed on your anticipated list? Let us know in the comments!
